Lyons A Finalist For Citizenship Cup

Meghan Lyons, a senior on the North Carolina field hockey team, is a finalists for the 2013 Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup, which is presented each year to one professional and one college athlete who have made the greatest differences in the lives of others. The winners will be announced April 23 at a dinner in Atlanta.
Lyons is one of five college finalists. The others are Andrea Mingo (Purdue, basketball); Nathanael Franks (Arkansas, track and field); Brigetta Barrett (Arizona, track and field) and Eric Soza (Texas-San Antonio, football).
The professional athlete recipient of the 2013 Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup is golfer Jack Nicklaus. He also will be honored at the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup dinner.
Lyons, who is from Wilmington, Del., has been involved in a wide variety of community outreach activities throughout her four years at UNC. A two-year president of UNC's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, she recently was inducted into the Order of the Golden Fleece honorary society in recognition of her leadership and impact on the UNC community.
This is the second time in the past four years that a UNC field hockey player has been a finalist for the prestigious award. Brianna O'Donnell was a finalist in 2010.
UNC alum Mia Hamm was the professional honored in 2010.
