Two former UNC players earned top honors and the Mid-Atlantic/South team, which had a decidedly Carolina blue tint, claimed the crown at the USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship, which wrapped up Wednesday following a week of competition in Norfolk, Va. Katelyn Falgowski, the 2011 National Player of the Year at Carolina, led the Mid-Atlantic/South team and was named Player of the Final. Loren Shealy, a rising junior at UNC, scored one of the South team's four goals in the 4-2 championship game victory over Pennsylvania. In addition to Falgowksi and Shealy, other Tar Heels on the winning squad were Casey Di Nardo, Abby Frey, Caitlin Van Sickle. The team was coached by Grant Fulton, associate head coach at UNC.
