Six Tar Heels Named To U.S. Squad
May 30, 2013 | Field Hockey
Six current and former North Carolina players are among 30 field hockey standouts named to the 2013-14 U.S. Women's National Squad, announced on Thursday following completion of the USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship in Norfolk, Va.
Tar Heels selected are Rachel Dawson, Katelyn Falgowski, Jackie Kintzer, Kelsey Kolojejchick, Caitlin Van Sickle and Emily Wold. Wold, a rising sophomore at UNC, is the only one still playing at UNC.
The 30-member squad will report to Rutgers University for training camp in preparation for the International Hockey Federation's World League Semifinal in London June 22-30. U.S. head coach Craig Parnham will select an 18-player roster for that trip.
"I'm proud of all the Tar Heel representation we had at the Women's National Championship and particularly proud of those named to the training squad," UNC coach Karen Shelton said. "I'm especially pleased for Emily Wold, who is the one Carolina representative still on our team. It's always an honor to have the opportunity to represent your country, and I'm thrilled for all of them to have this chance."
