August 5, 2013 | Field Hockey
The U.S. Under-21 Field Hockey National Team beat South Africa 4-2 Sunday to finish in seventh place at the Junior World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany. Emma Bozek and Emily Wold, both rising sophomores at UNC, were part of the 18-player U.S. roster.
"It's fantastic to close on a win and we had a great tournament overall," said Steve Jennings, the U.S. head coach. "We played some incredible matches. Our losses were to some of the greatest teams in the world and for many of those games we were right there for long periods of time. Really couldn't be prouder of this team."
Bozek, from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., scored the final U.S. goal against South Africa, on a penalty corner in the 68th minute of play.
The field included 16 teams. For full tournament results, click here.
