September 20, 2013 | Field Hockey
After a pair of home games last weekend, the top-ranked North Carolina field hockey team opens Atlantic Coast Conference play on Friday with a top-five matchup at No. 4 Virginia. Both teams are undefeated this fall, UNC at 6-0 and Virginia at 7-0.
The Tar Heels then travel to Richmond for a Sunday non-conference game against VCU (2-4).

This weekend and for the Duke game, the Tar Heels will be without assistant coach Guy Cathro, who is serving on the U.S. Women's National Team staff at the Pan American Cup in Argentina. The U.S. squad, which includes five former Tar Heels, opens play on Saturday against Mexico.
"It's such a great opportunity for Guy," UNC coach Karen Shelton said. "I think he will gain so much from the experience and we're all thrilled that he's a part of the staff for this tournament. It's great for him and it's great for the National Team, but in the end it's also great for us - when our players or staff members get the chance to represent the U.S., they come back to us even stronger. It's a win-win. We'll look forward to having him back and we'll wish him all the best in the meantime."
Five former Tar Heel players are part of the team. Representing the U.S. will be Rachel Dawson, Katelyn Falgowski, Jackie Kintzer, Kelsey Kolojejchick and Caitlin Van Sickle.
