November 12, 2014 | Field Hockey
CHAPEL HILL – The top-ranked North Carolina field hockey team will take on No. 20 Liberty Saturday in the first round of NCAA Tournament play at Francis E. Henry Stadium. The Flames defeated Richmond 3-1 Wednesday afternoon in a play-in game to earn a spot in the first round.
Game time is 11:30 a.m. (watch on GoHeels TV). A matchup between Duke and Northwestern will follow at 2 p.m. (watch on GoHeels TV). The winners play Sunday at 2 p.m. for a spot in the NCAA semifinals.
The host Tar Heels and the Flames met earlier this season, with UNC winning 4-0 on Oct. 19 in Lynchburg, Va.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors. The first 50 UNC students to Henry Stadium will be admitted free.
Spectators should be aware that parking on Saturday will be very limited, as UNC is hosting Pittsburgh in football at 12:30 p.m. Field hockey fans are advised to park in the Manning Lot on Skipper Bowles Drive and take the free shuttle to Henry Stadium. The charge for parking in the Manning Lot will be $10.

On Sunday, the Boshamer Lot, across Ridge Rd. from Henry Stadium, is the recommended parking. Fans are advised to be parked by the start of the 2 p.m. field hockey game – after that time, the remainder of the lot will be reserved for parking for the UNC men's basketball game that evening.
The Tar Heels are the top seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament and are making their 31st appearances in the event's 34 years. Carolina has won six NCAA titles – in 1989, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2007 and 2009 – and has reached the final four six times in the past seven years, including 2013, when UNC fell in the national semifinal to eventual-champion Connecticut.
