Carolina Ranked No. 7 in Final Regular Season Poll
December 1, 2014 | Volleyball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina volleyball team remained ranked at No. 7 in the final regular season AVCA Coaches Poll, released Monday afternoon.
The next Coaches Poll will be released on Dec. 22, following the completion of the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.
After clinching the ACC championship with two victories last week against Duke and Wake Forest, the Tar Heels remained 7th overall due to limited movement in the top 10 thanks to two high-profile matchups.
Florida moved up one spot in the ranking to No. 5 after toppling No. 6 Texas in a 3-2 thriller in Austin, Texas. Washington also moved to a No. 3 ranking after defeating No. 1 Stanford, 3-1, last Wednesday in Seattle, Wash. The Stanford loss means that no teams enter the post-season with an undefeated record.
The rest of the top 10 remained intact, as UNC remained at No. 7, FSU at No. 8, CSU at No. 9 and Illinois at No. 10.
The Tar Heels AVCA Coaches Poll ranking matches their seeding in the NCAA tournament at No. 7, while Carolina's latest NCAA RPI is two spots higher at No. 5.
North Carolina (26-2, 17-1 ACC) will open its post-season play with a match against Hampton, the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference champion, this Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Carmichael Arena. The winner of that match will advance to play the winner of Coastal Carolina vs. Southern California on Saturday at 6 p.m.
