Greensboro, N.C. – North Carolina senior Paige Neuenfeldt was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Tar Heels to sweeps of Duke and Wake Forest over the weekend. It marks the second time in her career that the middle hitter has earned ACC Player of the Week honors and the eighth overall conference weekly honor for the senior standout, after garnering Freshman of the Week six times during her rookie campaign.
Neuenfeldt was on fire on offense over the weekend, hitting .727 without an attack error in wins over Duke and Wake Forest. The Birmingham, Michigan, native set a new all-time single-match record by hitting .846 (11-0-13) in the sweep of Duke, including connecting for a kill on each of her final 10 swings of the match. Her efficient play helped the Tar Heels hit at least .375 in both matches.
On defense, Neuenfeldt posted a total of nine blocks of the pair of three-setters, helping to lead Carolina to out-block its opponents 26.5-4.0 on the weekend while holding Wake Forest to a -.049 clip.
Neuenfeldt shares the weekly honor with Florida State outside hitter Nicole Walch, while Virginia middle Anna Walsh was named ACC Freshman of the Week. Walch earned her second Player of the Week honor of the season after leading the Seminoles to a pair of 3-0 victories over Clemson and Georgia Tech. She finished the weekend with 27 kills and a .510 hitting percentage, while adding 14 digs and five block assists.
Walsh earned her third consecutive Freshman of the Week honor and fourth of the year after finishing the weekend with a .490 hitting percentage and averaging 3.62 kills per set and 1.12 blocks per set. In the Cavaliers' win over Pitt, Walsh recorded 14 kills and a career-high six blocks. She then tied a match-high 15 kills to lead UVA past Virginia Tech, finishing the match with eight of her kills in the final two sets of the five-set match.
