Major Repeats As ACC Player Of The Week
October 6, 2015 | Field Hockey
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second week in a row, Tar Heel sophomore Gab Major has been honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week. The forward from Royersford, Pa., tied a school record with five goals in UNC's 8-3 win at No. 4 Virginia on Friday.
Major scored Carolina's second, third, fifth, seventh and eighth goals and also assisted on the first as the Tar Heels improved to 10-1 overall and 3-1 in ACC play with the victory in rainy Charlottesville, Va. Major now leads the Tar Heels with 11 goals this season after scoring nine in the last three games. She ranks second in assists with six.
The ACC Defensive Player of the Week is Duke's Alyssa Chillano, who happens to be Major's cousin. The Blue Devil sophomore helped her team to two shutouts last weekend, a 2-0 victory over No. 9 Louisville Friday and a 7-0 win over Longwood Sunday.
Next up for the Tar Heels is a home game on Friday against Longwood. Action at Francis E. Henry Stadium begins at 5 p.m. and there is no charge for admission.
