UNC Faces Duke Friday In NCAA Semifinal
November 20, 2015 | Field Hockey
Carolina (20-2) and Duke (14-6), which each traveled more than 600 miles to meet a backyard rival, will face off at 2:45 p.m., following the conclusion of the first game between top-seeded Syracuse and two-time defending-champion UConn, which starts at noon.
Gametime forecasts are for temperatures in the 40s with sun and wind. Snow is in the forecast for early Saturday morning.
UNC advanced to its seventh consecutive final four and 20th in school history last Sunday with a 1-0 win over Michigan at home in Francis E. Henry Stadium. The Tar Heels rested on Monday, got in a solid practice on Tuesday, and left campus after classes on Wednesday for a charter flight up to Michigan. On Thursday, the team practiced at Ocker Field and then enjoyed the NCAA Championship banquet, which included all four teams and was held at Michigan Stadium.
The Tar Heels are making their 32nd appearance in the NCAA field, more than any other program. In each of those trips UNC has been coached by Karen Shelton, who is in her 35th season as the Carolina coach.
