UNC Earns No. 2 Seed in 2015 NCAA Tournament Bracket
November 9, 2015 | Field Hockey
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina will open NCAA Field Hockey Championship play Saturday as the No. 2 seed in the field, taking Boston University, the winner of a Wednesday play-in game. The Tar Heels, who will host first and second round games, earned an automatic berth by winning the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon in Charlottesville, Va.
On Saturday at UNC's Francis E. Henry Stadium, the Tar Heels will face BU at 11:30 a.m., and Wake Forest will play Michigan at 2 p.m. The winners will face off Sunday at 2 p.m. for a spot in the NCAA semifinals, set for Nov. 20 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
“We're excited to be heading into the NCAA Tournament, and we're very pleased to be hosting games this weekend and welcoming Michigan, Wake Forest and Boston University to Chapel Hill,” UNC coach Karen Shelton said. “We all look forward to this time of year, and I'm sure it will be a stellar tournament with so many competitive teams in the mix. Right now we're pretty beaten up from a hard weekend, so we'll take a few days off and then jump right into preparing for what I know will be a challenging first-round game.”
UNC is making its 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 32nd overall in Shelton's 35th season as the Tar Heel coach. Carolina has made more NCAA Tournament appearances than any other program.
Tickets are $5 per person (kids six and under are free) and will be available at the Henry Stadium gate.
