GREENSBORO, N.C. – Six North Carolina student-athletes have been named to the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Field Hockey team, announced Wednesday by the league. Emma Bozek, Casey Di Nardo, Loren Shealy, Samantha Travers, Emily Wold and Julia Young earned the honor, which is based on athletic and academic achievement.
The All-ACC Academic recognition was the third for Bozek, Shealy and Wold. Di Nardo and Travers were honored for the second time and Young for the first.
Shealy, a business administration major from Charlotte, and Travers, a communication studies major from Harare, Zimbabwe, were seniors on the team during the 2014 season, when UNC earned a share of the ACC regular-season championship and reached the final four for the sixth year in a row. Travers completed her degree in December and Shealy will graduate in May.
Bozek (business administration, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Di Nardo (journalism & mass communication, Virginia Beach, Va.) and Wold (communication studies, Freehold, N.J.) are rising seniors.
Young (exercise and sport science, Yorktown, Va.) is a rising junior.
Duke's Lauren Blazing, a rising senior goalkeeper from Durham, was named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for field hockey.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
