Field hockey competition at the Pan American Games in Toronto began July 13 with five Tar Heels on the 16-player U.S. roster and another as an alternate. Jackie (Kintzer) Briggs, Rachel Dawson, Katelyn Falgowski, Kelsey Kolojejchick and Emily Wold join the rest of the U.S. team in opening play against Uruguay Monday morning, with pool games to follow on Wednesday (Chile) and Friday (Cuba). Quarterfinals are July 20, semifinals July 22 and finals July 24.

Wold, a rising senior at UNC, was initially listed as a U.S. alternate for the Pan Am Games but was added to the roster prior to the start of the competition. Caitlin Van Sickle, a Tar Heel alum, is now in the alternate spot.
