U.S. Takes Field Hockey Gold At Pan Am Games
July 26, 2015 | Field Hockey
The U.S. claimed gold in women's field hockey on Friday at the Pan American Games in Toronto, and six current or former Tar Heels were part of the effort. Alums Jackie Briggs, Rachel Dawson, Katelyn Falgowski and Kelsey Kolojejchick and rising senior Emily Wold were on the U.S. roster, and another Tar Heel alum, Caitlin Van Sickle, was the team's alternate.
The U.S. topped Argentina, the third-ranked team in the world, 2-1 in the championship match. In so doing, the team defended the Pan Am Games title it won in 2011, also over Argentina. That year's gold medal was the first the U.S. had ever won.
