September 22, 2015 | Field Hockey
GREENSBORO, N.C. –North Carolina junior back Julia Young has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the league.
Young, North Carolina's vice-captain, contributed on both ends of the field as the Tar Heels earned two shutout victories over the weekend. As center back, she anchored the back line as Carolina shut out No. 9 Louisville on Friday, 5-0, and Miami on Sunday, 3-0, limiting the teams to an average of seven shots per game. On the offensive side, she assisted on two goals against the Cardinals and one against RedHawks. Two of those assists came as the stick stopper on penalty corners, and the other was from the field. The three assists were her first of the season.
Virginia's Lucy Hyams was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week.
The third-ranked Tar Heels (7-1) return to action on Friday when they host No. 11 Boston College for an ACC matchup. Game time at Francis E. Henry Stadium is 4 p.m. and there is no charge for admission.
