Major Earns ACC Offensive Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina sophomore Gab Major has been named the ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week following a stellar weekend in which she had four goals and two assists in a two-game span.
Major posted 10 points to lead the Tar Heels to a 2-0 week with wins over No. 11 Boston College on Friday and Appalachian State on Sunday. A forward from Royersford, Pa., she scored her first career hat trick in the 5-0 win over the Eagles, notching all three goals within a span of 3:10 in the second half.
Against the Mountaineers, Major scored the first goal of the game and assisted on the second and fourth as UNC jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first half and went on to an 8-2 victory.
This season, she has six goals and five assists for the Tar Heels, who are 9-1 overall and 2-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play heading into Friday's matchup with No. 4 Virginia in Charlottesville. UNC is again ranked third this week in the national poll.
Syracuse's Roos Weers and Wake Forest's Valerie Dahmen were selected as Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
