UNC Hosts Rematch With No. 9 Michigan Sunday
October 2, 2016 | Field Hockey
CHAPEL HILL – The UNC field hockey team will get the chance to avenge one of the season's two losses on Sunday when the second-ranked Tar Heels host No. 9 Michigan for a 1 p.m. game at Henry Stadium.
Carolina and Michigan faced off in the season opener on Aug. 27 in Winston-Salem, N.C., as part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The Wolverines scored on a penalty corner with no time remaining on the clock to win that game and hand UNC its first season-opening loss since 2002.
The Tar Heels are 8-1 since then, including wins last weekend against a pair of previously-undefeated teams, No. 1 Syracuse and No. 2 Duke.
Michigan is 7-3 overall following a 3-2 overtime loss at Maryland on Friday.
The first 300 fans at Sunday's game will receive “Here We Go Heels” t-shirts. There is no charge for admission.
