Dorrance Wins 799th Career Game As Heels Down Miami

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The 15th-ranked University of North Carolina women's soccer team won 3-1 at home against Miami Thursday before a crowd of 904 at Fetzer Field. Carolina is 2-0-2 in its last four games after dropping back-to-back games in mid-September.
Carolina has now won four in a row in the series and is 12-2 all-time against the Hurricanes, winning the last seven in a row against the Hurricanes, Carolina remained unbeaten in Chapel Hill against Miami in its history. The Tar Heels are 7-2-3 on the season and 2-1-2 in the ACC. The Hurricanes are 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Head Coach Anson Dorrance gained his 799th career win in Carolina's victory over the Canes Thursday. If the Tar Heels win their next match at home on Sunday, they can present him with his 800th win in the program's 900th contest. Carolina plays Wake Forest at Fetzer Field Sunday at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra before going on a three-game road trip. The game will also be broadcast on WCHL Radio.
The Hurricanes scored first in in the 12th minute when Gracie Lachowecki scored from 10 yards out, sneaking the ball past the outstretched fingers of Carolina goalkeeper Lindsey Harris into the bottom right of the net. Emily Auld and Grace Rapp assisted on the goal. Lachowecki's goal was her ninth of the season, extending her lead as Miami's leading scorer.
Carolina struggled to generate chances on goal in the first half, only getting three shots off in the first 40 minutes. However in the 40th minute, Bridgette Andrzejewski scored her first of two goals in the game. Megan Buckingham snuck the ball past Miami's back line to Andrzejewski, who sent the ball into the net for her fifth goal on the season.
From then on, the Tar Heels dominated possession of the ball and outshot the Hurricanes 11-3 over the final 50 minutes of play.
Andrzejewski scored her second goal of the game and her sixth of the season in the 61st minute when Cameron Castleberry crossed the ball into the box from the right side and set up Andrzejewski for the one-yard header. Andrzejwski has scored all six of her goals in three games, scoring two in each (FAU, Virginia Tech, Miami).
Dorian Bailey scored the Tar Heels' final goal in the 78th minute of play off assists from Kasey Parker and Buckingham. Bailey's goal was her first of the season. The Tar Heels also had a penalty-kick opportunity in the 79th minute that was saved by the Hurricanes goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Carolina ended with a 14-6 edge in shots and a 5-0 edge in corners in the game. Tullis-Joyce made four saves for the Hurricanes and Harris made one for the Tar Heels. Carolina finished with a 7-2 edge in shots on frame.
