Duncan & Nyquist Finish In Top 15 At U.S. Nationals
December 17, 2016 | Swimming & Diving
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Greg Duncan and Jack Nyquist were among the Top 15 finishers Friday in men's 1-meter qualifying as the USA Diving Winter National Championships which continued with the second day of competition at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Duncan, who signed a national letter of intent last month to attend Carolina next year, finished 10th in the competition while Nyquist, a current senior and Tar Heel men's team co-captain placed 15th in the 21-man field.
"Today was a great contest. Everyone was performing at a high level and you couldn't miss a dive," says UNC diving coach Abel Sanchez. "Unfortunately, Jack slightly missed two dives which placed him in 15th. One meter is an event with little wiggle room. If you miss one dive you're out. Jack did a great job with his list. He didn't blow any dives. He was slightly off vertical on two dives. He's regrouped and we are looking forward to the three-meter event. Greg Ducan also had a consistent list, however, he missed one dive which placed him out of finals. He ended up 10th and the top nine move into finals. I couldn't be more proud of his future."
