Nine Tar Heels Named To ACC Academic Honor Roll
July 7, 2016 | Volleyball
An all-time high 356 North Carolina student-athletes have been named to the 2015-16 Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, announced Thursday by the league. Among them are volleyball student-athletes Leigh Andrew, Abigail Curry, Sydnye Fields, Taylor Fricano, Heather Gearhart, Taylor Leath, Kody Michal, Paige Neuenfeldt and Jordyn Schnabl.
Neuenfeldt, UNC's first-ever Academic All-America honoree, leads the team by earning her fourth consecutive award, while classmates Gearhart and Schnabl and junior Curry each picked up their third award. Redshirt freshman Leath tabbed honor roll status for the second straight season, while newcomers Fields, Fracano and Michal all earned their first honor. Neuenfeldt and Curry, who have both earned a place on the ACC Academic Honor Roll every season of their careers, also garnered All-ACC Academic honors at the close of the 2015 season.
The ACC Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year. UNC's previous high was 347 Tar Heels honored in 2013-14.
This year's total of 4,367 student-athletes honored was a record for the ACC in the 60th-annual edition of the list.
