Creatore Named ACC Offensive Player Of The Week
October 16, 2018 | Field Hockey
GREENSBORO, N.C. (The ACC.com) – North Carolina's Marissa Creatore has been selected as the ACC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday. Creatore, a junior from Chapel Hill, was honored for the first time in her career after playing a key role in both Tar Heel wins last weekend.
The top-ranked Tar Heels improved to 15-0 with a 4-1 win at No. 12 Boston College Friday and a 2-1 neutral-site win over No. 5 Connecticut Sunday.
Facing an early 1-0 deficit against BC, Creatore scored in the 19th minute to tie the score and then assisted on Catherine Hayden's game-winner in the 25th minute. That win also sealed the ACC regular-season championship for the Tar Heels.
On Sunday, four minutes after the Huskies scored to tie the game at 1-1 in the second half, Creatore responded by keying in on one of her team's points of emphasis for the previous week. She used heads-up play to grab a rebound after a UConn save and put the ball back for a 2-1 lead that would hold up through the rest of the game.
Creatore, who has started all 15 games at forward, has seven goals, fourth on the team.
Duke goalkeeper Sammi Steele was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
This week's honorees will face off Sunday at 1 p.m. as the Tar Heels host the Blue Devils for a non-conference matchup at Karen Shelton Stadium. Carolina will celebrate Senior Day before the game.
