Ilse Qualifies For ACC Indoors With Career-Best Mile

CLEMSON, S.C. — Kicking off the Bob Pollock Invitational for the Tar Heels, senior Morgan Ilse qualified for her second ACC Indoor Championship event after clocking a career-best time of 4:40.10 to win the women's mile on Friday. The Dunwoody, Ga. native first qualified for ACC Indoors at the JDL Early Bird Duals where she ran the 5,000 in 16:18.55 (16:11.12 converted).
Ilse's mile time is currently the sixth-fastest in the nation and ranks third in the ACC. Her JDL Early Bird performance also commands national attention as the 22nd-best time in the nation and the sixth-best in the ACC.
In jumps, sophomore Anna Keefer returned to her primary event on the team's second trip to South Carolina. Now two-for-two in long jump appearances, Keefer earned another first-place finish after jumping 19-1 1/2 (5.83 meters) on her second attempt at Clemson. Redshirt sophomore Daniel McArthur represented the Tar Heels in the shot put and finished the day in second place with the best collegiate mark of the day, 61-10 1/2 (18.86 meters).
OTHER CAROLINA HIGHLIGHTS
• Nicole Barnes qualified for the women's 60-meter hurdles final after placing eighth in the prelims. The freshman from High Point, N.C. improved her preliminary time to earn a sixth-place finish with a time of 8.67.
• Four of six Tar Heels competing in the men's mile — Luke Peterson, Andrew Brooks, Connor Peeples and Marshall Williamson — ran personal-best times in their road meet debuts.
