Matson Again Named National Player Of The Week

For the third time this fall, North Carolina's Erin Matson has been honored as the top offensive field hockey player in the country. She was announced on Wednesday as the Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week, an honor she also won in the first two weeks of the season.
Her most recent honor comes after a weekend in which she had five goals and two assists for 12 total points in two wins for the top-ranked Tar Heels. At then-No. 5 Virginia on Friday, Matson assisted on the gamewinner and the third goal then scored the fifth in a 5-0 win. At James Madison on Sunday, she had four goals — her single-game high and her fourth multi-goal game of season — including the game-winner.
This season she leads the Tar Heels in goals (156) and points (39). In the season's five weeks, she has been named ACC Offensive Player of the Week four times and then went on to earn the national honor on three of those occasions.
The National Defensive Player of the Week was Northwestern goalkeeper Florien Marcussen.
UNC (9-0, 2-0 ACC) hosts No. 2 Duke on Friday in its only game of the week. Game time at Karen Shelton Stadium is 4:30 p.m.
