GREENSBORO, N.C. – Leading the Tar Heels to a five-set win at Florida State, freshmen Lauren Harrison and Carly Peck swept the ACC weekly honors as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. Harrison was named the ACC Player of the Week and Peck earned the ACC Freshman of the Week honor.
Â
Redshirt-freshman Harrison continues to pave the way for North Carolina's offense, posting a team-best 18 kills – tying the most in Sunday's match with FSU's Jasmyn Martin. Following five kills through the first two sets, the outside hitter more than tripled her total with 11 kills between the third and fourth sets. Harrison's kill at the 3-10 mark in the fifth set sparked UNC's eight-point comeback for the win.
Â
Freshman right side hitter Peck recorded a career-high, 14 kills to propel the Tar Heels in their 3-2 win at FSU. The freshman set the tone for the match with five kills on eight swings in the first set. She continued to build, picking up nine kills without an error through the third set. The Charlotte, North Carolina native solidified the Tar Heels epic eight-point comeback in the fifth set with three-straight kills and a block for the 13-12 lead. Peck recorded a career-high hitting percentage of .414 while also picking up two digs and a block.
Â
With the Tar Heels' first sweep of ACC weekly honors since Sept. 5, 2016, Carolina now totals four conference accolades this season.
Â
UNC returns to action Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to host Duke in Carmichael Arena.
