Tar Heels To Host Top-Ranked BC Saturday

TAR HEELS HOST NO. 1 EAGLES IN TOP-FIVE MATCHUP SATURDAY
• The eyes of the women's lacrosse world will be on UNC Lacrosse & Soccer Stadium on Saturday when third-ranked North Carolina (8-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) will host top-ranked Boston College (10-0, 1-0 ACC) at noon.
• The Tar Heels are ranked No. 3 in the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse D1 Media polls this week. BC is ranked No. 1 in both polls. Both teams reached the NCAA Final Four last year.
• The ACC Network Extra will stream the game live. Chris Hooks will have the call.
• The first 500 fans to arrive at the game will receive a free t-shirt.
• The Tar Heels and Eagles are both 1-0 in ACC play in 2019. UNC beat Virginia two weeks ago, and BC won at Syracuse on February 16.
• Carolina is riding a five-game winning streak that includes a pair of wins over top-10 opponents. UNC dominated in a 21-11 win over No. 5 Northwestern on March 2 and won a 13-12 decision over No. 6 Virginia on March 9. Last Saturday, the Tar Heels won at No. 16 Florida.
• Carolina's last win over a No. 1-ranked team was a 16-15 overtime win in the 2018 regular season over top-ranked Maryland in Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
• Carolina leads the all-time series with Boston College, 16-3.
• Last year, the Eagles beat the Tar Heels in Newton, Mass., in the regular season and Carolina beat the Eagles in the ACC Tournament championship game.
• UNC is 8-1 all-time at home against BC with the lone loss coming in overtime in 2015.
• Boston College's three wins over Carolina were a 5-4, double-overtime decision in 2008, an overtime win in 2015 and in the 2018 regular season.
2018 ACC TOURNAMENT FINAL:
CAROLINA WINS THIRD STRAIGHT ACC TITLE, 14-11 (Sunday, April 29, 2018)
• Second-seeded North Carolina (15-3) got six goals from freshman Jamie Ortega and an MVP performance from goalie Taylor Moreno to defeat top-seeded Boston College (19-1), 14-11, in the 2018 CC Tournament final at Koskinen Stadium on the Duke campus.
• Ortega had six goals and an assist on the day, setting an ACC Tournament record with 15 goals in UNC's three wins over the weekend (breaking the record set by UNC's Molly Hendrick in 2017).
• Moreno made 11 saves in goal and an ACC Tournament-record 33 overall to earn ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Marie McCool, Emma Trenchard and Katie Hoeg joined Ortega and Moreno on the all-tournament team.
• For the Tar Heels, it was their third consecutive ACC title and their fourth overall (2002, 2016, 2017, 2018).
2018 REGULAR SEASON AT BC:
CAROLINA FALLS AT BC, 17-11 (Saturday, March 24, 2018)
• Second-ranked Boston College scored six consecutive goals late in the game and beat fifth-ranked North Carolina, 17-11, at the Newton Campus Soccer and Lacrosse Field in Newton, Mass., on March 24, 2018.
• After Marie McCool scored back-to-back goals for Carolina to cut the BC lead to 11-10 with 13:46 to play in the second half, the Eagles went on a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach.
• Maggie Bill led Carolina with three goals and three assists on the day. McCool and Katie Hoeg each had two goals and an assist, and Jamie Ortega scored twice. Marisa DiVietro and Ally Mastroianni both scored once.
• The Eagles got four goals and five assists from Sam Apuzzo, along with three goals and two assists from Emma Schurr and two goals and three assists from Dempsey Arsenault. BC won 17 draws in the game to Carolina's 10.
TAR HEELS DOWN CAMPBELL
• Jamie Ortega had a six-minute hat trick to start the contest among her game-high four goals as No. 3 North Carolina topped visiting Campbell 16-5 on March 19 at the UNC Lacrosse-Soccer Stadium. Katie Hoeg added a hat trick of her own as well as a game-high four assists for the Tar Heels, who led 13-2 at halftime and improved to 8-1 on the year.
TAR HEELS WIN AT FLORIDA, 11-9
• Third-ranked North Carolina (7-1) went on a 9-1 run to take an early lead, then withstood a late rally and picked up an 11-9 win over No. 16 Florida (3-5) on March 16.
• After the Gators took a 3-2 lead with 12:11 remaining in the first half, Carolina ended the half with a 6-1 run and started the second with three consecutive goals for an 11-4 lead.
• Florida responded with five straight goals to cut the UNC advantage to as few as two goals before the Tar Heels were finally able to keep possession away from the Gators in the closing minutes.
• Florida native Olivia Ferrucci had perhaps the best game of her career, with three goals and two assists, tying her career highs in both categories and posting her third hat trick of the season.
• Kara Klages had two goals and one assist, while Tayler Warehime scored twice and Katie Hoeg had one goal and one assist. Jamie Ortega, Taylor McDaniels and Giana Bowe each scored once.
NEW STADIUM
• The University of North Carolina opened its new, on-campus UNC Lacrosse & Soccer Stadium on Saturday March 2. In the inaugural women's lacrosse game played there, the third-ranked women downed fifth-ranked Northwestern, 21-11.
• The new facility has been under construction since May 2017 (coaches' offices are still a work in progress). It is built on the site of the old Fetzer Field, which housed six sports on campus from 1935 through 2017. The current name of the new facility is the UNC Lacrosse & Soccer Stadium.
