Karmen “Kiki” Kocar to Join Carolina Volleyball Staff

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina head coach Joe Sagula is pleased to announce the addition of volunteer assistant coach Karmen "Kiki" Kočar to complete the Tar Heels' coaching staff.
"Kiki will be a great addition to our coaching staff," Sagula said. "She comes with many great experiences as a volleyball player who has worked her way up from a junior to a professional level all over the world. She will bring that perspective to our program, sharing her knowledge of the game with the players and coaches. Her knowledge and experience at various levels of the game will make her a valuable resource for our team and add a great dynamic to this 2019 season."
Kiki Kočar of Ljubljana, Slovenia comes to North Carolina after playing professionally for 13 different teams in Slovenia, Austria, France, Germany and Croatia beginning with the Slovenia National Team in 2000.
Throughout seven years of international volleyball play in Europe, Kočar was the MVP of the German Cup in 2017 and named the best setter of the International Volleyball Tournament in Belgium in 2015. Following her international playing experience, Kočar went home to Slovenia to serve as a volunteer assistant coach for NKBM Branik, Maribor for one season before returning to the court for the 2018-19 season as a team captain. Additionally, Kočar has been a Bring It Promotions tour organizer since 2012, guiding European tours for university volleyball teams.
Kočar spent four seasons with teams in Germany, Croatia and France from 2010-17. With two different teams in Germany, Kočar was team captain of Nawaro Straubing during 2015-16 and was named the MVP of the German Cup for Allianz MTV Stuttgart in 2016-17. While with SF Paris Saint-Cloud (France), she was named the best setter of the International Volleyball Tournament in Belgium.
Kočar returned to Slovenia to join NKBM Maribor volleyball club from 2007-10. Earning sport achievement awards in 2007 and 2008, she served as the team captain and earned MVP honors for the Slovenia cup in 2010. After reaching Slovenia's top league and being named the best setter of the 2003 Slovenian Cup, Kočar began her foreign professional experience, playing with SVS Post Vienna (Austria) and Gazelec Beziers, Beziers (France) in 2005-06 and 2006-07, respectively. Kočar was also a member of the Slovenian National Team from 2000-09, representing and playing for the Slovenian national team in international competitions and serving as team captain in 2007.
A certified FIVB (Federation Internationale De Volleyball) Level 1 coach, Kočar graduated from the University of Maribor in 2016 with a degree in sport training.
