February 1, 2020 | Field Hockey
Â
Â
UNC's Karen Shelton Stadium played host to field hockey at its highest levels on Jan. 26 as Chapel Hill was the site of an FIH Pro League matchup between the U.S. National Team and its Dutch counterpart.
Â
"It's an honor for us to be able to host FIH Pro League games here, and we're so proud to showcase our new facility to a word-wide audience,' UNC coach Karen Shelton said. "The level of play was just outstanding, and it was really special for our Tar Heels to be able to watch a game like that played on their home turf. Â We're looking forward to hosting three more weekends this spring, and I hope field hockey fans will come out and take advantage of the opportunity to see our sport played at the highest level."
Â
The Netherlands, ranked No. 1 in the world, won the game 9-0 over the No. 13 U.S. team, which featured two former Tar Heels: Ashley Hoffman and Lauren Moyer.
Â
Three more weekends of play are scheduled in the spring. Â On April 10-11, the U.S. will face off vs. China. May 2-3 it's U.S. vs. Australia. On June 5 and 7 it's U.S. vs. Germany.
