Grund, Stepinski Punch Second Tickets To NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. — North Carolina sophomore Emily Grund and freshman Fabian Stepinksi both qualified for the second-straight day for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Tuesday at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships.
Stepinski placed 10th in the one-meter diving event and will now compete at the men's championships later this month in Indianapolis, Ind., in both the one- and three-meter events.
Grund, who qualified on Monday in the one-meter event, did the same thing in the three-meters on Tuesday evening by placing fifth overall.
Stepinski and classmate Alex Hart both reached the finals of the one-meter event by finishing 13th and 16th, respectively, in the preliminary rounds in the morning. In the finals, Stepinski finished with 625.3 points for 10th, while Hart accumulated 594.85 points for 14th.
Andrew Owsiany was 30th in the prelims with 243.75 points.
Grund was the only UNC competitor to reach the finals in the evening session after placing fifth in the preliminary rounds. Teammates Paige Burrell and Taylor Hockenberry finished 26th and 28th, respectively.
The final day of the NCAA Zone B Championships from Athens on Wednesday features the men's and women's platform event.
