Matson Wins Rammy Award for Championship Performance

Last November in Winston-Salem, N.C., sophomore forward Erin Matson's play helped earn UNC the 2019 NCAA Field Hockey Championship. Tuesday, it earned her a Rammy Award.

Matson is the recipient of the 2019-20 Rammy Award for Best Championship Performance, based on her play at the final four, where she was named Most Outstanding Player. Â

The eighth-annual Rammy Awards are being announced all week on the @GoHeels twitter account. The awards show, typically held at Memorial Hall in April, highlights outstanding performances over the past year.

Matson totaled six goals in the two games in Winston-Salem, with four against Boston College in the semifinals and two against Princeton in the final. She capped the season with National Player of the Year honors and was selected as recipient of the Honda Sport Award.

The Rammy is Matson's second. Last season she won Female Outstanding Newcomer Award.
