Swimming & Diving Teams Nationally Ranked In First CSCAA Poll
October 14, 2022 | Swimming & Diving
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ranked in the first edition of the 2022-23 College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America (CSCAA) poll.
The women debuted at No. 17 with the men appearing at No. 23. The women's team finished the 2021-22 season ranked No. 19, while the men finished outside the top 25.
Carolina is one of six ACC teams ranked in the men's poll and five in the women's poll. Louisville, NC State, Virginia and Virginia Tech are ranked in each poll, while Florida State is only ranked on the men's side.
Both the men's committee and the women's committee are comprised of 16 Division I coaches and two media outlets. Each committee is tasked with ranking the top 25 teams in the nation based on the strength of their best dual meet lineup. The polls do not aim to predict top finishers in a championship meet format.
The remaining polls are scheduled for release on November 17, December 15, January 19, February 9 and March 9.
The Tar Heels opened the 2022-23 season with a convincing dual meet sweep on Sept. 30, defeating Queens University of Charlotte by identical scores of 188-69.
UNC returns to action on Friday, Oct. 21, at UNCW.
