GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina freshman forward Ryleigh Heck has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week following her first career hat trick and a total of seven points in Friday's 6-1 win over Syracuse.
Heck, a freshman from North Beach, N.J., had a hand in the Tar Heels' final four goals of the day, scoring the third and fourth, assisting on the fifth, and then scoring the sixth. She now ranks second on the team with 10 goals this season. Friday's assist was her second of the year.
It's the fourth week in a row that a Tar Heel has won or shared offensive honors and the first career win for Heck.
Louisville's Sasha Elliott was honored as ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
No. 1 UNC is back in action at home this weekend for two top-10 matchups, hosting No. 7 Virginia on Friday and No. 9 Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
