Four Men's Lacrosse Alums To Take Part In PLL Championship Series
December 16, 2022 | Men's Lacrosse
LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The four Premier Lacrosse League clubs taking part in the upcoming Championship Series announced their 12-man rosters this week, which featured four former Tar Heels.Â
Justin Anderson '21, Chris Gray '22, Marcus Holman '13 and Will Perry '21 were selected by their respective teams to play in the five-day event, at The St. James in Springfield, Va., near the end of February.
The Olympic-style sixes games will be played exclusively with shortsticks, during four 8-minute quarters. The fast style contest will have face-offs only to begin each quarter, as goalkeepers will restart play after goals, and any shots that miss the target are deemed turnovers. In order to qualify for the preseason event, the four clubs needed to finish at the top of the PLL regular season standings last summer.Â
A 2021 USILA All-American and All-ACC selection, Anderson played five seasons for the Heels from 2017-2021. In his two season career with Chrome Lacrosse Club, Anderson has played in 20 contests. Last summer, racked up 21 points on his way to his first All-Star selection.Â
Sitting atop the NCAA ranks with 401 career points, Gray spent three seasons in Chapel Hill rewriting the record books. A two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist and two-time All-American for the Tar Heels, Gray was selected second overall in the 2022 PLL Collegiate Draft by Atlas LC last May. In his first season as a pro, Gray finished eighth in the PLL with 34 points on his way to his first All-Star choice. This month, Gray was tabbed the No. 33 overall player in the PLL, voted on by its players.Â
A three-time All-American for Carolina, Holman was the 2013 ACC Player of the Year on his way to being a Tewaaraton Award finalist. In his pro career, which spans over Major League Lacrosse and the PLL, Holman is an eight-time All-Star, including each season thus far in the PLL. Last season, Holman finished second on Archers LC with 29 points, including 17 one-point goals, a pair two-point scores, and eight assists. In the recent PLL Player's Top 50, Holman was slotted No. 39 entering the new campaign.Â
A five-year member of the men's lacrosse program, Perry led the Tar Heels in goals in 2019. During his time at UNC, Perry tallied 141 points during his career, the most in program history by a midfielder. Following his collegiate career, Perry played in two games in 2021 for Whipsnakes LC, after being selected from the PLL Player Pool.Â
In February, each club will play three round-robin games from Wednesday to Friday to determine seeding for the semifinals on Saturday. The winners of each semifinal will advance to the championship on Sunday, Feb. 26th.Â
