UNC Wraps Up Successful Weekend At Raleigh Relays
March 27, 2022 | Track & Field
RALEIGH, N.C. – The UNC track and field teams bookend the weekend with wins and sprinkled outstanding performances over a three-day span of competition at the Raleigh Relays Thursday through Saturday. At NC State's Paul Derr Track & Field Facility, Carolina's Madison Wiltrout won the women's javelin to kick off the meet on Thursday and James Joycey took the men's hammer title on Saturday.
Wiltrout's throw of 55.96m (183-7) gave the Tar Heels' school record holder a second title in as many weeks. She is the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Field Performer of the Week after resetting the school record last weekend at High Point.
Other standout performances on Thursday came from Alex Potts (second) and Emerson Porter (fourth) in the women's pole vault, both with outdoor PRs.
On Friday, Jack Aho set a school record in the men's 10K with a time of 28.53.67. The previous mark of 28:55.44 had stood since 1983.
Also on Friday, Ben Finger recorded an outdoor pole vault PR of 5.11m (16-9.25) to take the bronze.
Joycey's hammer throw of 67.03m (219-11) on Saturday bested the field and gave the Tar Heels another first.
Next up for UNC is another close-to-home meet as the Tar Heels travel to Durham for the Duke Relays April 7-9.
