CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina's Karen Shelton Stadium was built for weekends like the one coming up.
In addition to being an outstanding collegiate field hockey facility, the Tar Heels' home has a global certification that allows Carolina to host international competition. For the first time since the spring of 2020, UNC will do just that on Saturday and Sunday as the women's national teams from the U.S. and England meet at KSS as part of FIH Hockey Pro League action.
Games are at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and tickets are available here.
"When the facility was designed it was designed with this in mind, our ability to showcase not only NCAA sport and our program's history to but also to attract international competition," UNC coach Karen Shelton said. "We're so proud to have been selected to host this prestigious event, and have as many Tar Heels as we do representing our sport and our program."
Five past, present or future Tar Heels will play for the U.S. this weekend, with Erin Matson, Lauren Moyer, Ashley Sessa, Cassie Sumfest and Paityn Wirth all competing in the red, white and blue.
In addition to the five who will play on Saturday and Sunday, the rest of the Tar Heels got to face England on Wednesday afternoon in a scrimmage at KSS, giving a taste of international competition to the entire Carolina roster.
Tickets for both the Saturday and Sunday games are $30 for adults and $15 for youth (17 and under). Single-game admission is $20 for adults, $10 for youth. All seats are general admission.
Sessa is among five players making FIH Hockey Pro League debuts this weekend. The other four Tar Heels have played in Europe or South America this spring. Ashley Hoffman and Meredith Sholder also have played in the Pro League this spring but are not part of the roster for this weekend.
