Divers Complete Day One Of Tennessee Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – UNC divers completed a successful first day at the Tennessee Invitational on Wednesday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

Senior All-America diver Aranza Vazquez Montaño captured first-place in the 3-meter final with a score of 356.80. Freshman Ellie Joyce also advanced to the 12-diver final, claiming third place with a score of 305.80. Sophomore Lara Phipps finished 23^rd in the preliminary competition with a 250.75 points.

Alex Hart was the Tar Heels' top finisher in the men's 1-meter competition. The senior posted a score of 301.55 to take eighth overall. Freshmen Carter Loftin finished 15^th in the preliminaries with a score of 270. 44 while fellow newcomer and Rodolfo Vazquez Montaño placed 16^th with a total of 266.90 points.

The UNC women are in third place with 68 points, trailing first-place Tennessee (74) by six points and second-place Alabama (70) by two points. The Carolina men stand sixth of seven teams after the first day of competition.

The women will dive on the platform Thursday while the men will take to the 3-meter on the second day of action at the Tennessee Invitational. Prelims will begin at 1:30 p.m. EST.
