Shaffmaster & Nolan Earn ACC Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A pair of Tar Heels garnered All-Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball honors, the league announced on Monday, as voted on by the leagues' coaches. Junior Mabrey Shaffmaster earned first team honors for the second straight year and freshman Sydney Nolan was tabbed to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

Shaffmaster is now a three-time All-ACC honoree after earning first team honors as a sophomore and second team honors as a freshman, in addition to being named the 2021 ACC Freshman of the Year. A 6-foot-1 outside hitter from New Castle, Ind., Shaffmaster appeared in 26 matches this season, making 25 starts and 98 set appearances, leading the team with 364 kills, averaging 3.71 kills per set, and 37 service aces. She tallied 193 digs, second-most on the team, and recorded 32 total blocks, seven solo blocks and 18 assists.

In conference play, Shaffmaster ranked third in the league in kills (3.81/set) and points (4.39/set) and fifth in service aces (.39/set). She tallied 19 double-digit kills matches and four double-doubles.

Nolan, a freshman from Florence, Ky., appeared in 18 matches, making 16 starts and 65 set appearances for the Tar Heels this season. The 6-foot-4 middle blocker tallied 69 blocks, second-most on the team, 104 kills and held a team-best .391 hitting percentage. In conference play, Nolan ranked fourth in the ACC in hitting percentage (.392) and eighth in blocks (1.07/set).
