No. 1 Women’s Lacrosse Handles No. 9 Virginia, 17-12

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ten different players scored at least once as the No. 1 University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team defeated No. 9 Virginia, 17-12, on Saturday afternoon at Dorrance Field.
Following the win, the Tar Heels remain undefeated at 6-0 and 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference action and handed the Cavaliers (6-1, 2-1) their first loss of the season,
The win marked the Tar Heels' 46th-straight regular season victory, now the second longest regular-season streak in women's lacrosse history.
Carolina has also now won 28 games in a row, setting a new program record for longest win streak.
How it Happened
The top-ranked Tar Heels embark on a two-game road stretch next week. Their first stop is in Louisville, Kentucky, to take on the Cardinals on Thursday, March 16, at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium at 1 p.m. ET.

How it Happened
- It was a back-and-forth start between the Tar Heels and Cavaliers before two-straight goals from Emily Nalls and Alyssa Long put UNC up 4-3.
- Three unanswered goals from Virginia left Carolina down by two, before Long converted an eight-meter attempt as UNC trailed 6-5 after the first quarter.
- Caroline Godine scored two straight in the second frame before Nicole Humphrey added one of her own, giving the Tar Heels a 10-8 edge at the break.
- UNC jumped out to a 13-8 lead – its largest of the game – at the start of the third quarter with Reilly Casey, Elizabeth Hillman and Marissa White each recording a goal and an assist.
- North Carolina withstood a Virginia rally as Casey scored her second with 4:19 remaining, sparking a 4-0 run followed by goals from Wurzburger and Godine's third.
- Humphrey added another in the game's final minute to seal the 17-12 win.
- Ten UNC players scored at least once compared to only four from UVA.
- Carolina was dominant on the draw, holding a 24-9 advantage over Virginia. Nalls had a game-high eight followed by Dirks with seven and Student with six.
- UNC held a 36-29 edge in shots, including a 26-20 lead in shots on goal.
- Alecia Nicholas, who had a game-high three ground balls, made eight saves between the pipes.
- Carolina had three caused turnovers – one each from Casey, Kaleigh Harden and Ellie Traggio – while Virginia had none.
- The Tar Heels have now won 46 consecutive regular season games, the second longest streak in women's lacrosse history.
- UNC has now won 25 consecutive regular season ACC games and has gone 72-6 in its last 78 games against ACC opponents (regular season and postseason).
- Carolina has now won 38 consecutive home games, extending its longest streak in program history.
- With 28 victories in a row, Carolina has set a new program record for longest win streak.
- UNC has now scored double-figure goals for the 63rd time in the last 65 games.
- Carolina has won 55 of their last 56 games, and 63 of their 65 games.
- Jenny Levy, the winningest coach in league history, is now only one ACC win away from 100 in her career.
- UNC has now beaten three top-10 teams by a combined 23 goals this year.
