CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the UNC field hockey team, the spring season is a time for growth and an opportunity to put in work that hopefully will pay off in the fall. The Tar Heels' first chance to check their progress happens Saturday, as Carolina travels to Durham for a morning of action at the Duke Playday.
The Tar Heels open the day against Duke at 9 a.m. After that, they'll scrimmage Old Dominion, Liberty and finally Wake Forest at 12:45.
"We challenge each other every day but it's different when you're out there facing someone else," UNC coach Erin Matson said Friday afternoon as her team wrapped up a blue-white scrimmage on its home turf. "We've been working hard on cleaning up the basics and fostering that killer-instinct mentality. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow."
All games are at the Blue Devils' Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
The following Saturday (April 1), the Tar Heels travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Wake Forest in a 2 p.m. scrimmage.
On April 16, Carolina travels to face Liberty in Lynchburg, Va.
Finally the Tar Heels will wrap up the spring season with a home scrimmage against Stanford on April 23 at 10 a.m.
