CARY, N.C. – Fourth-seeded North Carolina women's soccer fell 3-2 to third-seeded Florida State in the championship game of the 2024 Ally Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Trinity Armstrong, Maddie Dahlien, Kate Faasse and Linda Ullmark were named to the ACC All-Tournament Team.
The Tar Heels, ranked eighth nationally, move to 16-5 (7-3 ACC) on the year while the No. 8 Seminoles improve to 14-2-3 (7-2-1 ACC).
How It Happened
The Tar Heels, who have been in the top four of the RPI all season, now await their NCAA Tournament fate. The official bracket will be revealed during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
Carolina will be seeking its 23rd national championship – and 22nd NCAA title – in program history and is the only team to play in all 42 NCAA Tournaments to date. UNC's 22 national titles are the most by a team in women's soccer history, and the Tar Heels are also first in College Cups (31), championship game appearances (27), wins (147) and games (170).

How It Happened
- UNC was on the attack quickly with an opportunity in the second minute. FSU keeper Addie Todd got her gloves on Dahlien's low shot to the far post after she charged down the left side.
- Dahlien registered another shot on frame 12 minutes later after getting around several defenders to cut inside the box, but her shot lacked power and went right into the hands of Todd.
- Continuing to press, the Tar Heels saw another scoring moment in the 29th minute. Tessa Dellarose's free kick to the back post found Armstrong, whose header sailed just wide.
- UNC broke through to get on the board first in the 31st minute. Dahlien drew a foul inside the box to award Carolina a penalty kick, and Faasse stepped up to the spot and converted the attempt for a 1-0 UNC lead.
- The Seminoles responded three minutes later. A failed clearance off an FSU corner gave Taylor Suarez space at the top of the box to send a strike through traffic to the bottom left corner.
- The Tar Heels regained the lead in the 43rd minute after Faasse scored her second of the day. Bella Sember lofted the ball from the left side to connect with Faasse inside the box whose header sailed into the back of the net.
- Holding a 2-1 lead at the half, UNC also went into the break out-shooting FSU 7-4, including 4-2 on frame.
- Another foul was called inside the 18 in the 64th minute for a penalty, this time in favor of the Seminoles. Taylor Huff took the shot and leveled the score at two apiece.
- Florida State took a 3-2 lead four minutes later. Jordynn Dudley got her heel on it to send it back to Wrianna Hudson who volleyed it into the lower left corner.
- Dahlien drew another foul in the 79th minute just outside the box in a dangerous position for a set piece. Sember took the free kick, but her shot went right into Todd's gloves.
- Ullmark got herself in position with just under eight minutes remaining but her shot from a tough angle fell wide.
- Faasse becomes the first Tar Heel to have a brace in the ACC championship game since Casey Nogueira did so in 2009, also against FSU.
- A junior, Faasse bagged her fourth brace of the season. She extended her team lead to 16 goals and 33 points.
- Faasse is the third Tar Heel in the last decade to have 4+ braces in a single season, joining Alessia Russo (5, 2019) and Bridgette Andrzejewski (4, 2016).
- It marked the third assist of the year for Sember, who ranks second on the team with 17 points.
- Both teams finished with 11 shots and six shots on target. FSU had four corner kicks to UNC's two.
- Clare Gagne made three saves between the posts.
