Six Tar Heels Recognized As All-ACC Performers
November 6, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Six North Carolina women's soccer standouts combined for seven All-Atlantic Coast Conference postseason honors, as announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the ACC Tournament.Â
Earning All-ACC First Team praise is Trinity Armstrong and Kate Faasse while Maddie Dahlien and Tessa Dellarose landed on the third team. Joining Armstrong on the All-Freshman Team is Bella Gaetino and Linda Ullmark.
Carolina's seven total honors are the second-most in the league, as are its three rookies on the All-Freshman squad.Â
Armstrong is the first Tar Heel to be named to the All-ACC First Team and All-Freshman Team since Alessia Russo in 2017. She is one of two freshmen on the All-ACC First Team and the only rookie defender on any of the three teams.
Enrolling in college a year early, Armstrong quickly became an anchor on Carolina's back line. She helped limit opponents to 6.5 shots per game and 2.7 shots on goal per game, in addition to being instrumental in seven shutouts on the season, during the first 13 games of the year.Â
She was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24 – the only freshman to win the award this season – and was ranked No. 4 on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list. She recently earned bronze with Team USA at the FIFA U17 World Cup, its best finish since 2008.
An explosive forward, Faasse is in the midst of a breakout junior season and leads the team with 14 goals and 29 points. She has eight goals in the last 10 games, and she netted seven goals in 10 ACC regular season matches. Six of her 14 goals have been game-winners which ranks first in the league and third in the country.
Faasse also has three braces on the year, joining Russo (five in 2019) and Bridgette Andrzejewski (four in 2016) as the only Tar Heels to bag 3+ braces in a single season in the last decade. She was ranked 10th on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Players list, the fourth highest among all ACC players.
Dahlien, also a junior forward, has one goal and four assists for six points on the year. She has started nine of the 10 matches she has played in, missing time due to representing the U.S. Youth National Team at the FIFA U20 World Cup. She helped the stars and stripes earn bronze, forcing the game-winning goal in the third-place match.
Holding down the midfield for Carolina is Dellarose, a junior who leads all field players with 1,662 minutes and has started every match. She has totaled three goals and four assists for 10 points and was credited with the game-winning tally against Arizona and Seton Hall. Dellarose was elected one of three team captains during preseason.Â
Both Dahlien and Dellarose were named to the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2022 with the latter also garnering third-team honors.Â
Accompanying Armstrong as the only two defenders on the freshman team is Gaetino, who has seen action in all 19 matches thus far and has earned a starting role in all but two. She has seven points behind three goals and an assist, highlighted by a pair of game-winners at Colorado and against North Dakota.   Â
Gaetino checked in at No. 43 in Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Freshmen ranking.Â
The team's assist leader with five, Ullmark also has two goals and nine points on her resume. The midfielder was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1 after a brace and an assist against Virginia as the lone Tar Heel to have 5+ points in a single contest this year. She also became the third UNC true freshman to record 5+ points in a game since 2018.
Ullmark was tabbed the No. 1 freshman in Top Drawer Soccer's rookie ratings. She has started every games and leads all freshmen with 1,542 minutes.
North Carolina returns to the pitch on Thursday, Nov. 7, against Duke in the semifinals of the 2024 Ally ACC Tournament. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. More information, including tickets, can be found here.
