In the Last Meeting
The last contest between the two teams was on February 15, 2023, in Chapel Hill with UNC posting an 18-6 win. Caitlyn Wurzburger had a team-high seven points off four goals and three assists to match her career high. Reilly Casey added three goals and two assists while Alecia Nicholas made eight saves.
Last Time Out
The Tar Heels dropped a 19-18 overtime decision at James Madison on Saturday in a marquee matchup to begin the new season. Four Tar Heels in Ashley Humphrey, Eva Ingrilli, Alyssa Long and Wurzburger had hat tricks to combine for 19 of UNC's 29 goals.
Making her Carolina debut, Humphrey recorded a game-high four assists as well as a team-high seven points and three ground balls. Her first point – an assist on UNC's first goal of the season – marked the 200th of her career.
Wurzburger's three-point effort brought her career total up to 204, which now ranks 12th all-time in program history. Ingrilli's hat trick and assist in her collegiate debut marked the second year in a row a Tar Heel freshman has netted at least three goals and four or more points.
Home Sweet Home
Carolina will play at home at Dorrance Field nine times this year during the regular season with the potential to host postseason games. Since March 23, 2019, the Tar Heels have only lost at home twice (Syracuse on April 15, 2023 and Denver on May 18, 2023). Graduate defender Gabi Hall, who has been on the team since 2019, has only lost three home games during her six-year UNC career.
Preseason Praise
During preseason, North Carolina was picked No. 3 by both ILWomen/IWLCA and USA Lacrosse, as well as in the ACC preseason coaches poll. Emily Nalls, Olivia Dirks and Marissa White were selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team, as White was one of just two underclassmen on the list.
Roster Rundown
The Tar Heels have returned 26 players from their 2023 squad, including all six players who started every game a season ago. Carolina has also returned 77.7% of all goals, 83.2% of all assists, 79.55% of all points and 75.6% of all shots produced a year ago. The 35-player roster features student-athletes from two countries and 11 states with two native North Carolinians. There are seven grad students, nine juniors, eight sophomores and seven freshmen.
Major Milestones
A few big milestones are on the horizon for the Tar Heels…
