Three Tar Heels Qualify For NCAA T&F Outdoor Championships
May 24, 2024 | Track & Field
LEXINGTON, KY.—Three Tar Heels earned trips to the NCAA Track & Field Championships on Friday, the third day of the 2023 NCAA East First Round, which marked the final day of men's competition.
Ethan Strand qualified for a trip to the NCAA Outdoors in the men's 1,500-meter run. Strand won his heat with a time of 3:45.47, building on his ACC championship in the event earlier this month.
Craig Saddler II earned a trip to Eugene in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing seventh in 49.49 seconds. He had won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in the 400mH.
Parker Wolfe won his heat in the men's 5,000 meters in 13:56.51 to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor meet. Wolfe, who finished second in the 5,000 at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships, set UNC's 5000m outdoor record in his ACC Championship run two weeks ago.
All three represented the Tar Heels at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas.
Strand, Saddler, and Wolfe will join Alex Phillip (10000m) in Eugene, Oregon, on June 5-8.
The NCAA East First Round will conclude on Saturday in Lexington with the final day of the women's competition.
