July 15, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's soccer head coach Anson Dorrance – who enters his 46th year at the helm – has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2024 season, which features 10 regular season matches at Dorrance Field.
Season tickets are available for purchase here. Single game tickets will be on sale in early August.
Carolina is set to face five teams that finished in the top 25 of the final United Soccer Coaches poll last year, highlighted by matchups with defending NCAA champion Florida State and national runner-up Stanford. In addition, UNC's opponents include four quarterfinal and three semifinal teams from the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
The Tar Heels begin the year with a trip to the Centennial State for two matches to kick off the 2024 campaign. UNC will first face Denver in the regular season opener on Aug. 15 before taking on Colorado on Aug. 18 in Boulder.
The team then returns home for seven straight matches contested in the state of North Carolina, the first four which will be played in Chapel Hill. UNC hosts Georgia for its home opener on Aug. 22 ahead of playing Arizona (Aug. 25), North Dakota (Aug. 29) and Seton Hall (Sept. 1) at Dorrance Field.
The first of two meetings this season between the crosstown rivals, the Tar Heels head to Durham to battle Duke on Sept. 5 during a nonconference game. UNC then welcomes Columbia to town on Sept. 8 for its final nonconference match.
Atlantic Coast Conference action begins when Wake Forest pays a visit to Chapel Hill on Sept. 12. Carolina then treks north for a weekend road trip at Pitt (Sept. 19) and Syracuse (Sept. 22) before coming home to host Virginia (Sept. 27) and Louisville (Oct. 3).
UNC will once again journey out west for a two-game slate against a pair of new ACC opponents in California. The Tar Heels are set to take on Cal in Berkeley on Oct. 10 followed by a must-see match with NCAA runner-up Stanford in Palo Alto on Oct. 13.
A game with Clemson is on the books for Oct. 17 in Chapel Hill prior to Carolina traveling to Tallahassee for another highly-anticipated contest against Florida State, the reigning ACC and NCAA champion, on Oct. 25. UNC will rematch with Duke on Oct. 31 – this time on home turf at Dorrance Field – to close out the regular season.
Postseason competition commences with the ACC Tournament from Nov. 3-10. The NCAA Tournament will take place Nov. 15-Dec. 9 and the College Cup will be held in nearby Cary.
The Tar Heels finished the 2023 season with a 13-2-8 overall mark, which included a 5-0-5 record in ACC play and saw a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals. Six players received All-ACC honors with four garnering All-Region praise and two earning All-America recognition.
Following the season, an NWSL-record six UNC players were selected in the 2024 NWSL Draft. Carolina had three first-round draftees – including the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks – which set a new NWSL record for most players selected from a single school in the opening round.
