Gymnastics To Host NC State

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the second consecutive meet, University of North Carolina gymnastics will clash with NC State. The Tar Heels will welcome the Wolfpack to Carmichael Arena Friday at 7 p.m. with streaming available on ACCNX.

Carolina last met NC State on Sunday where they fell 197.125-196.525. Despite the loss, the Tar Heels had several individuals put together career-high performances while moving up in the record books. JoJo Valahovic recorded a career-high and third-best score in program history on vault (9.925). The sophomore's performance earned her an event win and ACC Co-Specialist of the Week honors.

Gwen Fink had another impressive outing for the Tar Heels last week against the Wolfpack. The senior recorded a career-high 9.950 on bars to claim the event win and become tied for the third-best score in program history on the event.

Sydney Seabrooks also posted a 39.525 in the all-around against NC State to earn an event win and highest AA score in the ACC for the week.

As a team, Carolina posted their highest team score on bars this season (49.200) in the last meet against NC State.

Tar Heel Tidbits

UNC ranks no. 13 in the nation and no. 2 in the ACC heading into week six of the season.
Kaya Forbes ranks 10th in the country and first in the ACC on vault.
Sydney Seabrooks is tied for 16th in the NCAA on floor.
The team ranks in the top 25 in the NCAA on all five events (Vault – no. 9, AA – no. 13, Floor – no. 16, Beam – no. 19, Bars – no. 21).
After recording a 9.925 on vault, JoJo Valahovic was named ACC Co-Specialist of the Week (Feb. 10). This marks the third time this season the sophomore has recorded a 9.900 or higher on the event.
Gwen Fink recorded a career-high and the program's third-best score on bars against NC State (9.950).
Jessica Naranjo, Sydney Seabrooks, and JoJo Valahovic all recorded a 9.900 on their respective events against Clemson. Naranjo and Valahovic were crowned event winners on beam after posting season-high scores of 9.900.
After recording a 9.950 on floor for the two consecutive meets, Sydney Seabrooks was tabbed ACC Specialist of the Week (Jan. 20).
Gwen Fink was tabbed ACC Gymnast of the Week (Jan. 14) after winning the All-Around title in the season opener at Florida with a score of 39.475.
The Tar Heels were picked to finish fourth in the ACC Preseason Poll.
Carolina secured second place while recording a program record score on the road (196.675) in the season opening quad meet at Florida.
Gwen Fink and Kaya Forbes were named to the ACC Preseason Watchlist while Sydney Seabrooks was featured on the Preseason Newcomer List.
Sydney Seabrooks was named to the Most Anticipated Freshmen List by College Gym News.
