General: Solid performer for the Tar Heels in the butterfly and distance freestyle events...three-time letterman…transferred to UNC from the U.S. Military Academy where he was a cadet and swimmer for nine weeks before injuring his knee...maintains a 3.138 cumulative GPA at Carolina.
2000-2001: Continued remarkable improvement in his swimming despite facing serious kidney problems during the competitive season…at the 2001 ACC Championships, he finished 11th in the 200 fly (1:51.39 prelim), 13th in the mile (15:41.01), and 15th in the 100 fly (50.28) – all personal bests…a spring Dean’s List honoree and ACC Academic Honor Roll member.
1999-2000: Made great strides in both the distance free and butterfly events…at the 2000 ACC Championships, he finished 16th in the 1650 free (15:52.87) and in the 200 fly (1:52.36), and 21st in the 100 fly (50.79), all of which were personal best times.
1998-99: Shared the Jamerson Memorial Award as the squad’s most improved swimmer...won the bonus consolation heat of the 200-yard butterfly at the 1999 ACC Championships.
Prep: Graduated on June 7, 1997 from North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem, N.C....was a swimmer at NFHS, specializing in 200 IM, 100 fly and 100 breast...was the North Carolina high school state champion in 200 IM in 1997...named the MVP for his high school team all four years...was the co-captain of the team as a senior...inducted into his high school’s athletic hall of fame...was a North Carolina honors graduate, member of National Honor Society and member of German Club.
