Robbert Schenk joined the UNC field hockey staff in June of 2019 as an assistant coach. He works with all aspects of the program, focusing on the Tar Heel offense in particular.
Â
“He’s an outstanding addition to our staff,” Shelton said upon his hiring. “He’s an offensive specialist who brings a ton of international experience, and we’re excited to have him join our team. He’s completely new to the college game, which I think is a real plus – he brings fresh eyes and innovative ideas.”
Â
Schenk has played and coached in the Netherlands, England and Australia. Most recently he served as Hockey Development Manager at Hurstpierpoint College, a boarding school in the U.K. There he redesigned the school’s sport guidelines and programs and coached all levels and abilities. Prior to that, he was Head of Hockey Development at Caterham School, also in the U.K.
Â
His playing career has included stints with Premier League clubs in Den Haag, the Netherlands; and Melbourne, Australia; as well as East Grinstead and Oxted, England.
Â
“Although I’m new to collegiate field hockey, I know about UNC’s outstanding tradition and I’m honored to be a part of it,’ Schenk said. “This is such a strong program, but there’s always room for improvement and I’ll work hard to make sure we continue to move forward. I’m excited to be a Tar Heel and ready to get to work.”
Schenk and his wife, Nicole, live in Raleigh with their dog, Rocco. Nicole works as a search engine optimization specialist.
