Colin Izzard is the newest addition to the Tar Heel coaching staff, having moved to Chapel Hill in September of 2002.
A native of Albany, N.Y., Izzard swam for four years at Syracuse University from 1994-98. He was a breaststroker and sprint freestyler for the Orangemen and swam on Syracuse’s 1995 Big East Conference championship team. Izzard graduated from SU in 1998 with a B.S. degree in health and exercise science. He lettered in swimming four times and was named to the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll as a junior and senior.
Izzard comes to Carolina from the PEAK Swimming Club in Asheville where he served as the head coach. Prior to that he was an assistant coach at Niagara University and the assistant head coach of the Clarence Swim Club in Amherst, N.Y. He is a member of the Highlands Racing Team, a semi-pro mountain biking team.
He graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1994. Izzard was married last month to Elann Johnston Izzard, a native of Orange City, Fla., who graduated from Daemon College in 2001 with a degree in physical therapy.
