Arturo Rivera joined the Carolina coaching staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2012 season. Rivera came to UNC from UCF were he had been the interim assistant coach in the spring and summer of 2012, serving as the head beach coach and camp director. He also served as assistant coach for the 2010 season at UNLV, coaching the outside hitters and defense, as well as serving as the director of volleyball operations.
Rivera went to UNLV after spending a year playing and coaching internationally. He played with the STV-Tilburg Heren 1, where he helped lead the team to a B-League Championship and coached Meijses A and Dames 2 with Triade VCT of Tilburg, The Netherlands.Â
Rivera, a native of Orlando, Fla., began his coaching career with the Orlando Gold youth club team in 2005 before taking on the role of team manager for the University of Central Florida from 2005-07. He then became the volunteer coach at UCF for newly hired head coach Todd Dagenais during the 2008-09 campaign. Besides helping the university's NCAA squad, he also served as the head coach for the UCF women's club team and assisted the men's club team during the same time frame.
Rivera played collegiately at Ball State University from 2004-05 and then later for UCF's club team from 2005-08. He is a 2008 graduate of UCF with an undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in health and education and a minor in Spanish.
