Bowman Named to 1998 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Junior midfielder Justin Bowman of the University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team has been named to the 1998 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office in Greensboro, N.C. Bowman is the only Tar Heel to make this year's All-ACC Team and the first Carolina player to do so since 1996.
The Arnold, Md. native and 1995 alumnus of St. Mary's High School in Annapolis, Md., ranks among the Tar Heel leaders this year in a multitude of categories. He has played in all 13 games for the Tar Heels so far this year, starting on 11 occasions. He leads the Heels in shots with 85, is tied for second in goals with 20 and is fourth in points with 26. He is also third on the team in ground balls with 44, in faceoffs won with 46 and in faceoffs attempted with 73. He leads the Carolina team in faceoff percentage at .630.
Carolina has a 6-7 record and is currently ranked #14 in the STX/United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Poll. The Tar Heels close out their regular season Wednesday at Ohio State at 2:30 p.m. NCAA bids will be announced on Sunday, May 3, 1998 at 4:30 p.m. The selection show will be aired lived on Home Team Sports.
1998 ACC champion Maryland led the All-ACC Team will five selections, while Duke had three and Virginia two. Maryland's representatives were attackmen Matt Hahn and Scott Hochstadt, midfielders Frank Radin and Brian Zeller and goalkeeper Kevin Healy. Chosen from Duke were attackmen John Fay and Jared Frood along with midfielder Scott Diggs. Virginia is represented by attackman Tucker Radebaugh and midfielder Drew Melchionni.
