CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 10th-ranked University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team will open its 2000 campaign this coming Sunday at Fetzer Field against Fairfield University at 12 noon.
The Tar Heels will be looking to end a string of three straight losing seasons as they prepare to start the campaign against the Stags. UNC was 6-9 last year while the Stags are coming off a year in which they won 10 and lost 7.
Admission for Sunday's match at Fetzer Field will be free. In fact, UNC has announced that admission charges to the first four UNC men's lacrosse games of the season will all be waived. Besides the Fairfield game, other free matches will include Butler on February 26 at 2 p.m., Navy on March 4 at 1 p.m. and Delaware on March 11 at 1 p.m.
The Tar Heels enter the 2000 coached by Dave Klarmann, who is in his ninth year as head coach. The senior captains include attackmen Matt Crofton and Chase Martin, midfielder Jordan Herrick and defenseman Todd Maher. Altogether, UNC returns 27 lettermen from the 1999 season.
The Tar Heels' schedule, which has been ranked the third toughest in the nation in 2000 by Faceoff Magazine, features 10 home games at Fetzer Field.
